HoloQuest: History

Elements of the Project

Hands On History
Interactive VR

Students have made a variety of VR history experiences over the years, including a Salem Witch Trial courtroom, a Smithsonian History exhibit, and and a four story museum for the WWII Maritime Heritage Trail: Battle of Saipan. This will be another in a line of interactive experiences and example videos will be updated when they are made.

ExampleARBook
AR Handbook

This is an example of the kind of interactive AR handbook the students will be making during the project. This video will be replaced with videos from the actual experience as they are made.

Holographic History
Holographic Experience

This is an example of the kind of experience the students will be making for the HoloLens 2. This video will be replaced with additional examples once they have been constructed for this project.

Pioneers Museum Tour Picture

Students will create a 360 tour for the Meta Quest 2 and for WebGL using either the Insta360 Pro2.  A draft example the tour students are making is available here, or in the embedded version to the right. The tour takes 3-5 minutes to load depending on your Internet connection speed.

HoloQuest: History will feature a more robust tour with video descriptions and interviews with curators from the CSPM.

Structured Light Scanning

Students are learning to use an Artec Leo scanner to digitize artifacts and to create interactive galleries and experiences. Explore the scans of real world objects to the right are  embedded models of artifacts from the Colorado Springs School District 11 museum. Students are going to be digitizing models like this and making them available across a variety of different formats including AR/VR/MR and web based experiences.

The set of scans to the left are examples of the kind of scans we will be helping to make for the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum over the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. Models will be uploaded to Sketchfab, but they will also be included in AR, VR, and MR experiences.

These scans were created and cleaned up by and with the high school work based learning students at William J. Palmer High School working under the direction of Crafting Heroes staff.
